A Historic Renovation

Dating from 1890, the Old Schoolhouse is one of the few historic non-residential buildings in Great Falls. In 1972 a new school was built nearby, and the old schoolhouse building served as a residence, Grange Hall, realty office, bank, and post office until it was threatened with destruction in 1981. Local citizens rallied and formed Great Falls Heritage, Inc. to save the building, restoring it to its nineteenth century appearance. Reopening in 1986, the building is now used for community meetings, classes, and recitals. The building won an Honor Award from Fairfax County.
