Transformation
of an Existing House
The
request to add a music room to an existing house seemed like
a special but uncomplicated “add on” until the owner
added, “a music room to seat at least 100 guests.”
Acoustically excellent, the large (30 by 50 feet) music room
is “concealed” behind the Entrance Gallery with
only the gabled end of the room evident from the new Entrance
Courtyard maintaining a residential scale. To enclose this
courtyard, a new Bedroom Wing was designed, symmetrically
balancing the existing living room, creating an intimate sense
of arrival through the new garden.
