Sail
House
This
beach house has become somewhat of a local landmark around
Quillen's Point, Delaware. Its destinctive feature, a multi-hued
"sail" serves as both stair tower and thermal chimney,
"sucking hot air right out of the house." The clients
requested an uncomplicated, inexpensive summer house, reflecting
their enthusiasm for sailing. Consequently, the house was
conceived of as a simple "boat" floating on the
horizon. The house is sited in the midst of salt marshes and
water. This design garnered a design award from the Virginia
Society of the American Institute of Architects.
